Huangmaqing Fm

Period:
Triassic

Age Interval:
Middle Triassic to middle Late Triassic, (TJ85)

Province:
Jiangsu

Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Zhongshan-Xiawangqi, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It was named by Xie Jiarong in 1928. It is called Huangma Green Shale when it is named. In 1935, Li Yurao and others delineated the upper coal-bearing black shale and named it the Fanjiatang coal measure. In 1935, Li Siguang, Zhu Sen, etc. collectively referred to the Huangmaqing shale and Fanjiatang coal measures as Huangmaqing Fm. In 1962, Zhao Jinke and others renamed the Huangmaqing Shale to the Huangmaqing Group. The lower part is the Fanjiatang Coal Formation and the upper part is the Huangmaqing Fm. The age is classified as the Late Triassic. In 1970, the Jiangsu District Test Team changed the name of Huangmaqing Group to Huangmaqing Fm and placed Fanjiatang Fm in the Late Triassic. In 1977, the Anhui District Research Team re-defined the Huangmaqing Fm, referring to a set of purple-red clastic rocks above the Zhouchongcun Fm and below the Fanjiatang Fm.

Synonym:

Lithology and Thickness

Lithology Pattern:
Siltstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The appearance of variegated rock layers at the bottom is conformable contact with the underlying Qinglong Gr (Dongma'anshan Fm).

Upper contact

The top is conformable contact with the Fanjiatang Fm = the change in color upward from purple-red to gray-black of the siltstone.

Regional extent

This formation is mainly distributed in the area of the south of the Yi-Jianhu line to the north of the Guangde-Yixing-Suzhou-Shanghai line.
